Your Hills

Nevis Centre, Studio 1
3 hours

An evening of adventurous tales and inspiring journeys with Anne Butler, Sean Green and Joshua Adeyemi. Join them to celebrate the diversity of adventures the Scottish mountains and beyond can offer for everybody.

Hosted by Mountaineering Scotland the evening will involve a range of speakers from different backgrounds who have strong connections with wild places and are looking forward to sharing their stories to inspire you to get out and explore more.

The speakers for this evening are:

Anne Butler

What happens when someone who isn’t naturally athletic, decides in middle age, to start hill walking?

In ‘Time Well Spent’, Anne Butler shares the story of how discovering the hills reshaped her confidence, outlook and her sense of what is possible. It is not a tale of athleticism or natural talent. Instead, Anne speaks openly about the ups and downs of life in the hills, about making mistakes, determination, fear and motivation – and the reality of being in the hills when you don’t fit the image of what a ‘proper’ hillwalker looks like.

With warmth, honesty and humour, she recounts her journey to becoming the first woman to complete the 1124 hills on the SMC Full House list, not once but twice! Anne reflects on what the hills have taught her not just about Scotland but about  resilience, patience and not taking herself too seriously.

Warm, self-deprecating and quietly inspiring, Anne hopes to show that time spent in the hills can change your life in the most unexpected and beneficial ways.

Sean Green

Sean, aka Grizzly Munro Diaries, joins us to share the remarkable story of his Munro Round by bike. Sean set out in search of the best untouched mountain biking in Scotland, on what became an eight year mission to descend all 282 Munros by bike. Balancing work and family life with the immense physical and mental challenges of biking in some of the most remote and challenging terrain, he achieved his goal through a combination of technical skill, determination, a love of adventure and a soft spot for pushing himself physically and taking comfort in the uncomfortable.

Find out more about the highs and lows he encountered along the way, his love and respect for Scotland’s mountains, and how this experience has helped get him through some of life’s biggest challenges.

Joshua Adeyemi

An avid adventurer based in Scotland, he shares his passion for the outdoors through breath-taking content that highlights hiking, climbing, running, and water sports in majestic locations around the world.

Recognizing the lack of diversity in the outdoor space, Joshua founded Black Scottish Adventurers, a thriving community of nearly 7,000 members. The group works to encourage ethnic minorities to explore the outdoors, promoting physical and mental well-being while fostering environmental awareness.

As a board member of one of Scotland’s largest walking charities, Joshua is committed to making outdoor spaces more accessible and inclusive. His mission is to empower individuals to embrace nature while understanding their role in protecting the planet. Through storytelling, advocacy, and collaborations with outdoor organisations, Joshua connects people with nature one adventure at a time.
