Zeki Basan

“I can honestly say that Zeki is not a usual 15 year old. He is an exception and a great example of inspiration and leadership, he is wise beyond his years and deserves to be recognised and celebrated as an outstanding member of our community.”
Gavin Morgan – Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader

“Zeki Basan is at the start of his lifetime in the outdoors but is already a role model for other young people of what can be achieved both for oneself and for the greater good of our wild places. I hope he will be further inspired by receiving this inaugural award and will continue to inspire others with his passion for the outdoors.”
Mike Pescod – #TeamFWMF

“Zeki has found contentment and passion in spending time in nature, surviving off the land, learning about the values and uses of different plants, and building shelters to support his overnight trips into the wild. The knowledge and skills he has developed over the years set him apart as an example of excellence. He has been passionate about sharing his knowledge with the community, from younger pupils to peers to adults. He has volunteered with the D of E, taking a lead on aspects of the expeditions .. demonstrating his incredible knowledge and high level of skills in outdoor survival and bushcraft. Through his work with the Rangers, the D of E, and the John Muir Trust, Zeki aims to help conserve the hills and woodlands and thereby support biodiversity in the area.”
