Culture Award Nominations

Since 2008, we have celebrated outstanding achievement in our outdoor world. Each year, we invite you to nominate the next recipient of these prestigious awards. The individuals recognised are a rare breed – they stand out from the crowd and inspire us all to strive for our best, as they become the very best version of themselves.

In 2015, a Youth Award was added, and until 2025, both awards were presented annually at the Festival. For the 2026 Festival, the Youth Award evolved into our new Emerging Excellence in Mountain Culture Award. Do you know someone, of any age, who has recently discovered the power of the outdoors and is showing exceptional promise? Do they give their heart and energy to developing mountain culture, helping others to achieve greatness, or dedicating themselves to conserving, protecting or educating?

Our Outstanding Excellence Award will continue as it has since 2008, shining a light on those whose remarkable achievements inspire and uplift our community.

Has promoted Mountain Culture over a sustained period of time and not less than 5 years. This promotion can take the form of outdoor enthusiast / writer / photographer / environmentalist / rescuer / artist / musician or any combination of the above, i.e. anyone that you feel depicts 'Mountain Culture' at its best.

Has encouraged and/or educated others to engage and indulge in Mountain Culture in a variety of methods.

Is, or has been, an inspiration to others within the realm of Mountain Culture and supports Mountain Culture in various forms.

Has been recognised in some way to have achieved excellence within their chosen field.

If you, as the nominator, are in full time education, he or she must have support of any submission for the Scottish Youth Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture of at least 1 teacher, parent or guardian. If the nominator is not in full time education, then the nominator can submit on an individual basis. The nominee must have fulfilled any 2 of the below 4 criteria to be considered for the Award.

Criteria(Required)

The nominee must have shown resilience and determination to succeed within their chosen area of expertise (linked to an outdoor theme) and is thought of as an example of excellence by others.

The nominee should be someone who has achieved results through their own efforts and ideas and not solely through external influences or support.

The nominee should be someone who has given back to their community by promoting the ideals of a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle, i.e. perhaps through a local youth group/club or a volunteering opportunity.

The nominee has succeeded in the face of e.g. adversity, hardship or physical/mental challenges; they have achieved… no matter what!
